How Much Have You Paid for an Ebook?

Interesting question and one making its rounds via Novel Rocket:

  1. I've paid $14.99...with an Amazon gift card that I got as a birthday present. Probably would not have paid that much out of my own pocket (which is why I usually ask for gift cards around my birthday and Christmas lol).

  2. I wish they'd put a few more selections on the low end...and maybe make it multiple-choice so that we could see a spectrum of selections versus "the highest." As with Stoney's comment, he paid $14.99 for one book...but if he ordinarily only spends $5 or less, then the results are skewed. At least in my opinion...

I once paid $9 for an e-book, because I hadn't set up the "confirmation" screen, so random presses while in my bag bought the book for me. Ordinarily, I don't usually got above $5 unless I already know and love the author, and even then, it's with wailing and gnashing of teeth.

  3. I'm with you both. I actually misread the question - I thought it asked how much would you pay and I think the most I'd pay would be $7.99 for very good books, but normally less than 5 and 2.99 to 3.99 for your basic ebook.

Do you think market demand should play a role? Can the new JK Rowling novel (not YA) command 17.99 ebook and 19.99 hardback?

Keep it clean and positive. (And sorry about the word verification, but the spmb*ts are out in full force!)
