My IG Goes Public – Some Thoughts

I set my IG account to public.

Not earthshattering news, but I did wrestle a bit with making the decision. My Instagram account has been private since near the beginning. I use it mostly for sharing pics with family, friends. Some silly stuff.

About 500 images. Nothing actually ‘private’ that I wouldn’t mind complete strangers viewing. In fact, over time, I have accepted a handful of follow requests from people I don’t know.

That got me thinking. These past few weeks, I’ve been considering how I use and want to use social media in the months ahead. I don’t have a cohesive strategy! lol

But I do want to do more writing. And get paid to do it. Thus, plans to expand my writing platform.

Sounds a bit nebulous, but in my mind it means having a wider social media footprint so that future readers have more opportunities to come across what I have to offer.

And to get paid to write, I need to write. A lot. Everyday. I want to engage the power of streaks – doing something consistently day after day after day after day.

I’m reminded of Calvin Coolidge’s famous quote:

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”

So I’m starting simple with creating new content daily for this blog and posting links on most of my social media accounts. The list below is ridiculous.

But heh, it doesn’t take too much time since my blog is the central landing pad for almost all of my content. So if you would, check out the following platforms and feel free to follow me there.

For all things books and writing…

Other Social Media Hotspots…

And I have some songs on Bandcamp. Will eventually add CD Baby and Spotify. Music’s a hobby, not a money maker. Well, neither is writing at this point, lol.

Finally, some sites I haven’t figured out yet. I do have Pinterest but not sure why. I have no idea about Tumblr or TikTok or Snapchat. But if my wife and I are going to showcase some of our travels and I want to make bank as a travel writer, then maybe I should look into those.

Anyway, what social media platforms do you recommend? Where do you hang out? Hit me up and I’ll try to follow back.
