Today's Blog Challenge

Wednesday's Weekly Challenge is up at Long & Short Reviews. Go there to participate. Each week we blog about the topic of the day. For Feb 16 - Favorite Book Genre and Why.

I always think my favorite genre is SF/F - and I read quite a bit in that broad category (space opera, mil-sf, hard sf, but also epic fantasy, sword & sorcery, urban fantasy, even paranormal). So really those are two different genres if we're honest, but SF/F has such a nice ring to it! (grin)

Anyway, when I look at my Goodreads stats at the end of each year, the three main genres I read are SF/F, western, and my number one category is thriller. Okay, another broad category I know which - for me - includes mystery, cozy mystery, political thriller, legal thriller, espionage (CIA, etc), and post-disaster (not necessarily apocalyps, but disaster aftermath and survival).

Why do I like thrillers? The thrill ride, of course. The fast paced action, or the slow burning tension, or the interesting scenarios that keep me guessing or on the edge of my seat. All so intriguing, I guess.

I read in so many genres I don't know what is my favorite from week to week, but thriller is evidently a top choice because of the sheer number of books I read in that category each year. What are your favorite genres? Comment below! And thanks for stopping by.

  1. I'm very much in the nexus of fantasy/science fiction/horror, and I particularly enjoy stories that blend elements of those (and other genres). I also tend to bounce around a lot, so you're definitely not alone there!

    1. Hard to nail down some genres because of that blend. Which is cool, I like that unique flavor too. Happy reading and thanks for stopping by!

  2. I read a lot of genres as well. In addition, I belong to book groups and writing groups which take me into a lot of places I might not choose to go myself. Variety is the best.

    1. I should get back into some reading/book groups. I used to host one at our church but only 3 of us came each month :/ maybe in the future! Thanks for stopping by.

    1. I like suspense as well. As long as it's not too vulgar. I think a good story and be very intense without all the language and blood and guts, lol.

  4. I've never really got into thrillers, but I'm always open to trying one.

    1. Maybe try a Brad Thor or Vince Flynn novel, those are solid espionage/CIA type thrillers.

Keep it clean and positive. (And sorry about the word verification, but the spmb*ts are out in full force!)
