Book Date Monday - #AmReading Feb 7

Here's what I'm reading this week. I'm also participating in Book Date Monday - so post a link here to your reading update and comment here if you can. And happy reading! (Note: Affiliate links to Amazon below.)

e-books...

paperbacks...

audio...

  • The Prestige by Christopher Priest (steampunk/magical realism, 1995). Saw the movie back when it came out in 2006, starring Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, and Scarlett Johansson. Very good. The novel is quite different. Borrowed the audio file from our local library, but didn't finish it, so when I tried to renew, they'd removed it from their selection! So now I'm 1/3 of the way in and am stuck. My library doesn't have the e-book either. Debating if I want to buy it! lol

Just finished reading...

Deadlock by Stephen Hudler (superhero, 2021). Indie writer and comic book collector, Hudler is working on a a series of superhero novels, book 2 coming out soon. Read my review of book 1 on Goodreads. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Bridgerton - The Duke and I by Julia Quinn (season one and book one review here on my blog). I only read half of the book, btw.

On my TBR pile...

Genesis - Holy War, Book 1 by Rick Partlow (mil-SF, 2021). I've read a few books by Parlow, and have especially enjoyed his Drop Trooper series. So this is another series in that universe which should be good. Has over 1500 ratings, not bad for an indie writer.

Also, I want to finish the 6 book "So You Want to be a Billionaire" series by Elizabeth Maddrey. I've read the first 3 and have enjoyed them so far. Next up is: So You Have My Secret Baby. Sounds scandalous! But really, it's just good Christian romance with some excellent relational tension.

Well, that's a wrap. What are you reading? And what's on your TBR list? Thanks for dropping by!

  1. I remember reading so many Star Trek tie-ins back in the day. It is surprising how many authors like Barbara Hambly and Diane Duane took a dip in that pool. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. Thanks for stopping by! And yes, lots of great writers were also pulp and media tie-in writers. Saw your blog, will comment there if I can, but you have a lot of books on your TBR list! Best wishes!

  2. I read some of the Star Trek books but it's been YEARS. Nice to see those crop up again. I've considered tracking some down maybe on ebay or wherever.

    Welcome to the blog roundup!

    1. Okay, this sounds totally mercenary because it is, but I have about 15 or so of those Star Trek short novels that I'm willing to part with (moving, so we can't take all my books with us! argh!) lol - let me know if you are interested. I can send a picture and a suggested price and you can make your obo - "or best offer". Let me know! :)

  3. That's too bad about the library pulling The Prestige from their collection. I hope you are able to finish it at some point. I feel like I may have seen The Prestige around the time if came out, but there was another similar movie out at that time that I may have saw instead.

I hope you continue to enjoy your reading and have a great week!

    1. Thanks, and you're right! There was another magician movie that came out about the same time, which is weird as the Prestige was about competing magicians and two movies were competing in the same genre! It was The Illusionist! Starring Edward Norton, Jessica Biel, and Paul Giamatti. I saw them both. I think I liked the Prestige better, but now I'll have to re-watch them both! lol

    1. Thanks. Charlie is 18 years old and we call him Mr. Skinny now. He's still a sweet boy, but a little deaf and his arthritis kicks in each morning coming up the stairs!

    1. Thanks for dropping by! Yeah, I'm reading through the novelizations of the original episodes of Star Trek. Was watching them on Prime, too, but then Paramount took them over and I don't want to pay for another streaming service! lol

  6. Hey there! Wow - so you're a herder of cats! Sounds like a challenge! :) Saw that you were looking for The Prestige. I participate in Paperbackswap.com and find tons of books there. Maybe you'll find it? Take good care!

    1. Oh, good point. I'm in PaperBackSwap as well. So when we move (later this summer), I'll see if I can get a copy using one of my credits. Thanks for the reminder. And yes, a herder of 4 strays! We can get three of them inside when it's super cold but that 4th one won't come inside, but he'll go into the garage where we have a heated bed waiting for him when it's in the single digits!
